Etsy listing SEO checklist for new listings
Use this before you hit publish. Etsy's rules and search behaviour change, so check Etsy's current seller help pages too. Nobody outside Etsy can promise a ranking, and this checklist doesn't either. It just helps you avoid the common gaps.
Title
- Starts with what the item is, in the words a buyer would type
- Adds key attributes: material, style, size or colour
- Adds use, occasion or recipient where it is true
- Reads naturally when said aloud, with no repeated words or ALL CAPS
- At or under 140 characters (how to write the title)
Tags
- All 13 slots used
- Each tag is 20 characters or fewer, spaces included (tag limit guide)
- Mostly multi-word phrases a buyer would actually search
- Different angles: product type, recipient, occasion, style, material
- No duplicates, and no other brands' trademarked names
Description
- The first sentence says what it is and who it's for
- Details are in a scannable list: material, size, colours, what's included, care
- Shipping and processing time match your shop policies
- Every fact has been checked against the real item (description template)
Details Etsy asks for
- Category and attributes filled in completely
- Photos show scale, detail and the item in use
- Variations and personalisation options are stated accurately
Last check
- Read the listing as a buyer who knows nothing about your shop. What would they still need to ask?
